Dear Blackwell Community,

Wow! Time has flown with all the exciting events that have been taking place at Blackwell. We welcomed back all students to 2012 with a PBIS booster. The students participated in a Bingo game which helped them review what it means to Be Respectful, Responsible and Safe in school.

During January, students were working on how to be respectful to others. Our school-wide focus was on aggression and ways to handle anger. Students worked through ways to handle their anger instead of being aggressive. Since our goal was met, all students were able to participate in a school-wide board game day celebration. Students were allowed to bring in board games and card games on February 7th, 8th, or 9th to celebrate their success.

With our celebration also comes a time for a new goal. As you will see in our data graph below, one of our next areas to work on will be defiance. Many of the referrals that we have seen in the month of January have been for students not following directions, not listening closely to an adult, and not staying focused on their task. We will ask for your support at home to discuss with your children what it means to be respectful and follow directions. Our goal will be to drop the referrals to less than 7 for the month of February. If we meet our goal, we will have our next celebration in the month of March.

Blackwell students are fantastic. They worked very hard during the month of January to earn their celebration and we have confidence that they will earn their February celebration. We thank you for your continued support of our PBIS goals. Together we are all a great TEAM!
