Fall MAP Assessments

Beginning on Monday, August 24th, we will test kindergarten through eighth grade students using the computer-based MAP assessments tool.  The purpose of MAP Growth (K-8) is to inform teachers of the immediate instructional needs of students. MAP results equip educators with key data to help personalize instruction and pinpoint individual student needs.  Please note that MAP has updated their national norms in 2025 so you may see some variance in your student’s national percentile rank compared to your student’s past MAP assessments.

Progressive Discipline

Emphasis at Blackwell is for students to practice self-discipline and accept more responsibility for their behavior.  Behavior that is disruptive to the education process and infringes upon the rights of others will not be tolerated. A consistent structure for progressive consequences is utilized across all locations in the school throughout the day including during arrival/dismissal, specials, acceleration periods, lunch, and recess.

  • First infraction: Warning from staff member

  • Second infraction: Classroom-issued consequence and potential phone call home

  • Third infraction: Second level classroom-issued consequence and required parent phone call

  • Fourth infraction: All of the above and referral to the office

  • Severe Clause: Dangerous or extreme off-task behaviors immediately referred to the office

As stated above, students displaying “Severe Clause” behavior will receive an immediate referral to the office and parents/guardians will be notified by the school administrator. Examples of “Severe Clause” behaviors would include: fighting; insubordination; serious verbal abuse or use of profanity or obscenity; acts that jeopardize the health, safety, and welfare of another; repeated and willful behavior that constitutes disregard for the rules and regulations of the school; and chronic behaviors involving classroom disruptions or inappropriate language.

Our goal is to teach students positive behaviors, so that all students can work in a school environment that is safe, fun, free from distraction, and conducive to maximum learning potential.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our school-wide structure for progressive consequences.
