Dear Blackwell Families,
It’s been a wonderful week at Blackwell! The highlight was seeing all our Bobcats’ smiling faces on picture day. A huge thank you goes out to the volunteers who made both picture day and our first treat day such a success. We wrapped up the week with our very first Smencil Friday, complete with a high energy dance party in the office! We’re excited to keep celebrating our students every Friday. Just a reminder that we have a half-day dismissal on Wednesday, September 17th. Have a wonderful weekend! |
Multicultural Parent Advisory Council
You are invited to join us at the Schaumburg District 54 Professional Learning Center (522 E. Schaumburg Rd. – DOOR C1) from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 as District 54’s Multicultural Parent Advisory Council presents a session for parents on “The Key to Success for English Learners in District 54.” During the meeting we will review how English Learners are identified in District 54 and discuss the information that ACCESS scores provide regarding your student’s learning. We will also share tips for creating a partnership with your students’ teachers, review the Evidence Based Funding in District 54, and explain how support is provided for multilingual learners. Interpreters will be available.
To sign up for the session, please complete the registration form by Monday, Sept. 15. If you have any questions regarding the meeting, please contact the Department of Language and Culture at (847) 357-5150.
Foundation Raising Cane’s Fundraiser – Sept. 17
Support the District 54 Education Foundation by eating at Raising Canes in Schaumburg from 12-9 p.m. Sept. 17. When you mention the fundraiser or apply code RCFUND96 to online/app orders, 15% of sales will be donated to the foundation that directly supports District 54 students.
Electric Bikes, Scooters and Skateboards
Electric bikes, scooters and skateboards are not permitted on District 54 property, due to safety concerns including the potential for accidents and the possibility of fire associated with such devices. This applies to students, as well as to family members and friends who may be picking up or dropping off students at school.
Classroom Parties
We are so excited to share some updates about the Room Representative volunteer opportunities for this school year! There are a few fun changes this year — Blackwell will be hosting two school-wide classroom parties:
Halloween Party – Friday, October 31st
Fling into Spring Party – Friday, March 20th
Both events will take place during the school day and will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate and make lasting memories together! We’ll send out more details as the dates get closer.
The Sign Up Genius for the Halloween Party will be available in the next few weeks. If you’re interested in helping out, keep an eye out for the sign-up link! Spots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to grab one when the sign-up goes live! We’re excited to welcome volunteers, but just a quick heads-up—only those who sign up in advance can help at the parties. And if you miss out, no worries as there will be plenty of other fun ways to get involved throughout the year, like Pizza Day, Hot Lunch, Treat Day, and more!
