|Dear District 54 Community,
As you know, the COVID-19 Global Pandemic is the most significant public health crisis our society has faced in recent times. Throughout the year, District 54 has navigated the changing circumstances, unprecedented challenges and evolving guidance and information. We thank our employees, our students and their families for their support and dedication to children.
Our commitment has always been to resume in-person learning when health and safety conditions enable us to do so. At this time, we are offering families the opportunity to send their children back to school under a modified hybrid model. At the same time, families will continue to have the option of full-remote learning throughout the pandemic. Every attempt will be made to keep students in both the remote and in-person models with their current teachers.
The hybrid model includes two full days of in-person instruction and three days of remote learning each week. This hybrid model will allow us to lower class sizes and adhere to social distancing guidance. In addition, various safety protocols have been developed to protect our students and staff, including a daily screener, the requirement of masks and temperature checks.
As required by Governor Pritzker’s Restore Illinois Plan, a 100% return to in-person learning will not occur until there is broad access to a safe and effective vaccine, a highly effective treatment and/or when there are no new cases over a sustained period of time.
Full details for the January return can be found in the Reopening D54 Plan (Spanish Reopening D54 Plan). We have also created a Reopening District 54 Video, which can be shared with your children to help them better visualize the school day. A Spanish Video is also available.
Again, thank you for your support. Please contact your child’s school if you have specific questions.
