Dear Blackwell Families,

It was such a joy meeting so many of our new kindergarten Bobcats at the park this week! We can’t wait to welcome all of our Bobcats at A Taste of Blackwell: Meet the Teacher Night next Tuesday. Below you’ll find all the important information to help us kick off what’s sure to be our best school year yet!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Electric Bikes, Scooters and Skateboards

Electric bikes, scooters and skateboards are not permitted on District 54 property, due to safety concerns including the potential for accidents and the possibility of fire associated with such devices. This applies to students, as well as to family members and friends who may be picking up or dropping off students at school.

Bus Passes
If your child rides a bus, you will receive a bus pass in the mail the week before school starts.  The bus pass will include the pick-up and drop-off times, and the location of the bus stop.  Please make sure your child brings his/her bus pass to school every day.

Progressive Discipline

Emphasis at Blackwell is for students to practice self-discipline and accept more responsibility for their behavior.  Behavior that is disruptive to the education process and infringes upon the rights of others will not be tolerated. A consistent structure for progressive consequences is utilized across all locations in the school throughout the day including during arrival/dismissal, specials, acceleration periods, lunch, and recess.

  • First infraction: Warning from staff member

  • Second infraction: Classroom-issued consequence and potential phone call home

  • Third infraction: Second level classroom-issued consequence and required parent phone call

  • Fourth infraction: All of the above and referral to the office

  • Severe Clause: Dangerous or extreme off-task behaviors immediately referred to the office

As stated above, students displaying “Severe Clause” behavior will receive an immediate referral to the office and parents/guardians will be notified by the school administrator. Examples of “Severe Clause” behaviors would include: fighting; insubordination; serious verbal abuse or use of profanity or obscenity; acts that jeopardize the health, safety, and welfare of another; repeated and willful behavior that constitutes disregard for the rules and regulations of the school; and chronic behaviors involving classroom disruptions or inappropriate language.

Our goal is to teach students positive behaviors, so that all students can work in a school environment that is safe, fun, free from distraction, and conducive to maximum learning potential.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our school-wide structure for progressive consequences.
